Public Relations Account Supervisor

We seek a versatile communicator who understands public relations, strategic messaging and varied writing styles. Can you write material that is appropriate for print consumer news media including radio, television, trade publications, social media and blogs? Can you write a news release, a feature story, an op-ed? Can you comfortably converse with editors, producers and writers on their level? Do you understand what those various outlets need – and what they don’t? If so, you may be qualified for this position.

 

What You Would Do:

  • Develops and presents strategic public relations plans and recommendations using appropriate public relations communication vehicles.

  • Coordinates the planning, development and execution of public relations activities in accordance with the client’s objectives and budget.

  • Guides day-to-day development of P.R. activities within approved plans and insures that progressive stages are approved to adhere to schedules.

  • Confers with client regularly, utilizing experience, product knowledge and research to guide counsel.

  • Coach clients on their handling of news media opportunities and inquiries

  • Consistently collaborate with team members throughout the work process to foster, facilitate and consistently deliver great work that is on strategy, on time, and on budget

  • Develops message points and key message strategies.

  • Writes/edits a variety of communication materials, including news releases, pitch letters, feature stories, fact sheets, executive bios, speeches, PR plans, editorials, op-eds and other assignments.

  • Develop story pitches and successfully execute them

  • Initiate, foster and maintain relationships with editorial gatekeepers in a variety of media

  • Monitor coverage and provide the client monthly reports of activities performed on its behalf.

  • Be a client’s spokesperson to the media, potentially at times be interviewed by print and broadcast media on behalf of the agency’s clients

  • Coordinate news conferences and other media events

  • Intimately understand a client’s business, industry and competition, leveraging that knowledge to help generate new ideas to strategically grow their business

  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationship with media.

  • Work under minimal supervision, keeping the account team and senior leadership informed as to the progress, status and conditions of projects on the account

  • Acts as writing coach for account coordinator, account executives and senior account executives.

  • Help identify new business opportunities and/or revenue streams for the agency

  • Positively contributes to the spirit of teamwork, enthusiasm and high quality.

What You Need:

  • Five to seven years of experience working with retail brands in media relations and corporate communications

  • Agency experience preferred; media staff experience is a bonus

  • Fluency in the Associated Press Stylebook

  • Solid and diverse writing skills and excellent oral presentation skills

  • Comfort in making story pitches and cold calls

  • Ability to recognize story angles and where to utilize them

  • Knowledge of how media function and what motivates their coverage decisions

  • Deep curiosity about a broad spectrum of topics and the ability to learn quickly the business and industry sector of a new client

  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients and bohan team members

  • Experience with MS Office Suite, media databases, presentation software, email and everything Apple
